About Nusrat, the traveler behind the stories

When people ask what I do, I usually smile because “environmentalist” only scratches the surface

Between Volcanoes and Villages

I’ve wandered through over 30 countries,  from the prayer flags of Bhutan and Morocco’s winding medinas to Germany’s quiet forests and the islands of Kenya. Some days, I’ve been running evacuation drills near an active volcano; others, I’ve been sharing mint tea with strangers who quickly became family Travel, for me, isn’t escape. It’s discovery of people, of resilience, of what it means to find calm in the chaos Each place has left its mark, not only as stamps on my passports or all the souvenirs I collected, but in stories I carry and lessons that unfold long after I’ve left

Path That Led Me Here

Before this blog, I spent years in environmental and development programs across Asia, Europe and Africa. That path took me from community projects in remote villages to international missions focused on sustainability and climate resilience. It grounded me in what truly matters:

Connection, purpose, and the responsibility to listen to the world, not just see it.

But somewhere along those journeys, I began writing again, not reports, but reflections. Nusrat Wanders was born out of that shift, a space where travel meets truth, and storytelling meets self-awareness.

A life on the Move

My “home” changes, sometimes it’s Bhutan, sometimes United States, Sometimes Germany or Kenya or Sri Lanka, sometimes just wherever my notebooks end up. In between assignments and airports, I find joy in slow mornings, mountain trails, street food markets, and stories told over coffee.

I’m endlessly fascinated by how cultures mirror one another, how a mother in rural Tanzania and one in Mexico may never meet, yet share the same rhythm of care, work, and hope.

When I’m Not Traveling…

Behind the trips, I’m usually reading, writing, or thinking of ideas for trips that may never happen but still make me dream a little.

I love long train rides, sunsets, rain-soaked markets, handwritten notes, and the quiet chaos of airports at sunrise.

More than one and half decade of work in development sectors still guides how I move through the world. I travel slowly, tread lightly, and believe the best souvenirs are the stories that respect the places and people who share them with us.

What You’ll Find Here

Nusrat Wanders isn’t about checklists or perfect angles. It’s about travel with depth, the kind that sits with you long after you’ve unpacked.

You’ll find journeys shaped by 30+ countries, told the way they felt, not the way they should look.
You’ll find stories from people whose lives and worlds have shifted mine in the best ways.
And you’ll find career and growth reflections from years of navigating global work, field missions, and the quiet moments in between..

This space is for wanderers who want more than a destination , those who travel to understand, connect, and come home a little different.

Let’s Wander Together

Nusrat Wanders is my journal of places, lessons, and the moments that shaped me. If travel shifts something in you too, then WELCOME, you’re already part of this path
